Curation is not shopping with better taste. It is a filter applied before the purchase, not a justification made after it. Five questions do most of the work.

Does it have a job, or only a look?

Objects with a function age well because use gives them a reason to stay. Purely decorative pieces have to work much harder.

What is it made of, honestly?

Solid wood, unglazed ceramic, wool, linen, stone, glass, metal. Materials that show their age instead of hiding it.

Would you repair it?

If the answer is no, you did not want it. You wanted the version of the room that had it in it.

Does it sit with what you already own?

A single object that fights the palette costs you more than it adds. Coherence is the whole point.

Would you buy it again in a year?

The most useful question, and the one people skip. Ask it before, not after.

Where price actually matters

Spend on what you touch daily and what carries weight: bedding, seating, lighting, cookware. Save on everything that is mostly seen.
